Day 12: We Explore the State Park and Get Quite a Surprise!

One of the perks of staying at Bentsen Palm is that you can get a free pass on any day to enter the Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park next door.  It is a World Birding Center and borders the Rio Grande River.  They do not allow motorized vehicles into the park so it is a great place to walk or ride bicycles as there are more than six miles of roads and trails.  We brought our bikes from Michigan so we decided on Tuesday to ride in and have a look.
Here Karen displays her badge to let us enter the park.

The sign at the main gate.

Here is an interesting marker along the main road in the park.  We noticed that there were very few visitors in the park besides the two of us.

We found a small trail leading south so we parked our bikes and decided to follow it on foot.

Seeing discarded items like this soon let us know that it was not your usual State Park foot trail!

We heard footsteps behind us and look who was coming up from behind?  It was just your normal five-member Border Patrol Unit out on foot Patrol.  Four men and one woman and all had side arms, tasers, and ear buds.

They tipped their hats and marched right on by.

Soon they were out of sight heading for the river like we were.

We finally made it to the river.  That hut is in Mexico on the other side.

Bill did spot one questionable person coming out of the bushes by the river but  did not turn her in.  Besides she looked way too dry!
