Mardi Gras at Pensacola Beach

On Sunday afternoon we rode our bicycles out of the Fort Pickins National Seashore area and down to the city of Pensacola Beach for the big Mardi Gras Parade.

Many spectators came dressed for the occasion as you can see above.

The parade started with these motorcycle police doing some precision driving stunts.
Next was a Scottish band with bagpipes.
Next came numerous large floats with plenty of  trinkets being thrown into the crowd.
Many of the large cities down in this area do big parades besides New Orleans.
The costumes are lavish and people really get into Carnival.
Supposedly,  Mobile Alabama was the birthplace of Mardi Gras.
As you can see here, Karen got right into the action.
After the parade, on our bike ride back to our campground, we heard a little girl with lots of necklaces around her neck telling her parents,
"This is the best day of my life."
