A Stormy Day in Florida

They predicted wet weather on Wednesday and the weather men did not disappoint.  It rained buckets so we ducked in and out of a few stores to get some supplies, had a pizza lunch, then went to the movies in Destin.

We saw "The Revenant" and were not unhappy with our choice.  It is a film with lots of violence and not for the faint-hearted.  It is one of those movies best appreciated when seen on a large screen.  We expect it to win many awards at the Oscars.

We took in a matinee and have never seen so many old people in a theater before.  Some did not know how to shut off their cell phones, quit talking, or sit down with their popcorn without spilling it all over their laps.  Nevertheless, we all had fun.

An added plus is that it now makes Florida feel a lot warmer!

  1. Marshall Rutz goes to all the first run movies and then gives a review. He gives them a 'Buffalo' rating and he gave Revenant a 10. Here's what he wrote:

WOW. This is an exceptionally gritty, graphic, and gripping survival drama set in THE ROCKIES in 1823. It's BASED upon the true story of mountain man Hugh Glass, who was mauled by a grizzly bear, and basically left for dead. Leonardo DeCaprio does an OUTSTANDING job in the title role, and is my pick for the Best Actor Oscar this year. The cinematography is some of the best that I have ever seen ...the visuals of the forests, mountains, streams, snowfields, sky, and stars are veritable works of art.

Graduates and scholars of MICHIGAN AND THE WEST will be especially appreciative of this flick, and its numerous extraordinary elements. It illustrates many of the ideas, concepts, and techniques that we dealt with in class. Feel free to submit commentaries for Extra Credit.

After seeing Leo ripped up by a grizzly, plunged into icy streams, pursued by nasty people, sleeping in snowbanks, dining on raw buffalo liver, and crawling into a gutted horse carcass for warmth ...my flannel sheets are going to feel mighty good tonight. (-:

    BUFFALO RATING: 10
