A Visit to the Local Museum in Carrabelle

Come to find out the Panhandle of Florida has a rich history of military bases that were very important in securing the United States victory of WWII. There were at least four large training camps scattered along the coast down here.  The base near Carrabelle, now long gone, was Camp Gordon Johnson.  It covered 155,000 acres and was an amphibious warfare training center.

We decided to visit the museum above that was only open a few hours each day.  It was well worth the visit.

Not only was there a 20-minute movie that explained the area's military history, but also hundreds of  items to see, touch, and learn from.

Here Uncle Sam needed "You" to defeat these bad guys.

Here is a wonderful display of military uniform patches to identify the division or type of unit to which that particular soldier was attached.
