Tuesday Sightseeing in Boston

We received another bright warm sunny day on Tuesday so we made like a couple of tourists and headed into the city of Boston, Massachusetts to look at this historical city.
We caught a hop-on hop-off trolley and started our tour right after breakfast.

Karen liked this squirrel statue we spotted along the trip.

We crossed Intestate 90 numerous times and were told that it is the longest toad in the US.  It starts in Boston and ends in Seattle, Washington.

This is the Boston Public Library.  It has approximately 27 million books.

We passed Boston Garden - home of the Bruins and Celtics.

We noticed many "dog walkers" in Boston.  In Frederic the dogs pretty much walk themselves when the owners aren't watching or are away.

There are hundreds of churches here.  This one has stained glass windows by Tiffany.

And this is one of many with spectacular architecture.

After a while we hopped of the bus and started following the "Freedom Trail" that passes many of the most historic places to visit.  It is marked by red bricks - kind of like "follow the yellow brick road" in Oz.  ---> So follow it we did.

Do you know who is atop this statue above?  Think of a beverage.
The next photo should give you a big hint....

It was thoughtful that he left a beer behind

We found this very old cemetery that had many members of the Franklin family in it.

Here is the main monument in the center of the graveyard.  Ben is not buried here.  However, Bill felt a connection because his maternal grandmother was a Franklin.   She was a direct descendant of one of Ben's brothers who may lie here.

We passed the Bell In Hand Tavern that is the oldest in the USA.  It was established in 1795 and has been in business since then.

This statue marks the spot where Democrats got the logo of a donkey.  Karen scratched his ears for good luck.

Bill found this statue that reminded him of his recent eating habits on the cruise ship.

Karen also touched this handsome soldier for luck but he gave her the cold shoulder.

Could you name this church if we told you that it once had two lanterns hanging in the belfry?

Good guess.
It is the Old North Church that the man below made famous when he borrowed a horse to spread a message.

Paul Revere is famous around here and certainly helped get our great country started.

We had a wonderful day in Boston and even saw this place where everybody knew our name!
Tomorrow we are out to sea all day as we head down toward Rhode Island.
That explains why you got so many pictures today as we will probably be out of range of telephone/internet connections.
