We Visit the Blues Trail

Wednesday was cloudy but the temp was still around 60 degrees in Memphis.  We headed into the heart of this music city.
Beale Street is considered the Home of the Blues.

This sign describes the Blues Trail that brought so many great musicians to Beale Street from the state of Mississippi.

Memphis has their own version of the walk of fame on a Beale Street sidewalk.
Above is a brass note for one of the musicians.

We toured the Rock n Soul museum.  It touts  a claim of showing the complete Memphis Music Story.  It was developed in association with the Smithsonian Institution and we loved it.

Visitors are given headphones and a digital player for a self-guided walking tour of the displays.

Here is some of the original recording equipment that helped make people like Elvis and B.B. King famous.
Here is the high school yearbook with Elvis in the second column and second down.

This old Wurlitzer jukebox was sweet.

After the museum we learned about one of Memphis' more famous former residents.  Have you ever heard of Piggly Wiggly?  It was the brainstorm of Clarence Saunders.

As these plaques explain, Mr. Saunders founded the first self-serve grocery chain.  He was an early version of Sam Walton.

Early tomorrow we plan to board the train for New Orleans.
