Thursday is a Travel Day

We are seeing more of this type of fold-up camper being pulled by smaller vehicles. like cars and minivans.  They are easy to assemble when one gets to a park, they are tall enough to stand up inside, and they pull easily.  Not a bad way to see the USA on a limited budget.

We felt like pizza Wednesday night so we ordered in.  This was the only gentleman who delivered to the Park!  He sold cigars for desert.

Anastasia State Park on Anastasia Island

Most campsites, like ours above, are flat, spacious, with plenty of vegetation between sites to help with privacy.  All RV sites have electricity and water but no sewer hook-ups.

Most Florida state parks are family-friendly.  Anastasia has two playgrounds like this above.

Tents are frequent in the Florida parks and we found this one to be rather interesting in its design. It kind of makes you feel at home while you are away!
This was our purchase yesterday in St. Augustine from an outlet of the Historical Research Center, Inc.  It is a Coat-Of-Arms and "Hollenbeck" Name History.  We had it framed and plan to display it on a wall when we get back home.

A Visit to the Old City of St. Augustine

The sun was shining Monday morning so we decided to drive over the Bridge of Lions, to behave like the other tourists, and revisit the old city.  St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied city in North America.  Above, behind Bill, is the Castillo De San Marcos, a national monument that was built starting in the year 1672.   That is one really old building!
We walked St. George Street, which is kind of like Mackinaw Island on steroids, and had a great lunch at the Columbia Restaurant.  The city was busy but not as crowded as last year.
Bill misplaced his map and had to ask this Florida Indian for directions.  He looked but could not find the car either, so he was not much help.
The walls of many of the old buildings are made from cement with sea shells mixed in for strength.  Here Karen points out how they have stood the test of time.  It was a pleasant city visit and we even made a unique purchase which you will see in a later post - so stay tuned in.

We Head Southeast to the Ocean.

On Sunday morning we left Jennings Florida and drove east on Highway 10 toward Jacksonville, then south to St. Augustine.  We had made reservations at Anastasia State Park which we had visited last year. It is right on the Atlantic Ocean with miles of beautiful beach.  It is difficult to get camping spots here, so reservations are a must this time of year.
We took a long walk on the beach and this flock of birds flew in to greet us.  The signs say that North Atlantic Right Whales are migrating through this area but we saw none.
Free WI-FI was a new service near the beach and we hope we see these signs at other state parks.  It was a cool and damp day but the weather is getting warmer and the sun may soon shine again.

Troublemaker in Camp! A Close Call as well.

On Saturday morning we drove north a few miles to the nearest Winn Dixie supermarket to stock up on groceries and a few miscellaneous items.  On the way home we stopped at this Flea Market near the Florida/Georgia line.  We bought a couple paperbacks but didn't find much.
Our campground near Jennings was full of Muscovy Ducks plus one red rooster.  This goose wandered into camp Saturday evening while honking loudly and made himself at home at the camper next door.
After about an hour of loud honks the lady in the camper had enough.  As you can see above, she came out with her broom and chased him across the road.  Needless to say, he soon returned and honked into the night!  He was still hanging around Sunday morning just to annoy the lady's cat,
Karen had a Close Call in Georgia!
This was her $100 dollar Winner - and with one more number we would be driving a new motorcoach!  Two more numbers and we might be riding in our own jet.

A Cloudy and Wet New Years Day in 2016

This retail outlet next to our campground might explain the loud booms we experienced the night of New Year Eve!
Jennings Outdoor Resort is close to I-75 and is used by many RV people as a one-night-stand stop-over on their way south.  It does, however, have a clubhouse that can be used by guests.
The many ducks in the park seem to think they should get a pass on following the posted rules.  (see below)
We have been enjoying the numerous Bowl games on TV.  Hail to the Victors---sorry to the Spartans!

Our Bags are Packed so We Leave Michigan and 2015 Behind

On the morning of Tuesday December 29, 2015 we dug our way out of the heaviest snowfall so far this year in Frederic, and headed south to pick up our travel trailer in Georgia.  We decided to avoid   I-75 this trip, and instead took I-69 to Indianapolis, then I-65 toward Alabama.  As soon as we entered Indiana we left the icy roads behind.  Traffic on our route was not bad and we spent our first night in a motel in Columbus, IN.  On Wednesday after a steady day of driving, we grabbed a room at dusk near Mongomery, Alabama.

Our travels southward were quite uneventful, but we did pass this rocket at NASA headquarters near Huntsville, AL that looked almost ready to blast off.

On the morning of New Years Eve, after 1250 miles, we arrived at Valdosta, Georgia and found our trailer to be in good shape and ready to go.  We knew that we needed ESPN to watch the bowl games so we hooked up and by mid afternoon we were pulling into Jennings Outdoor Resort Campground near Jennings, Florida.  They had cable TV service available and some vacancy spots so we took it.

The campground was friendly and sent out this couple (above) to welcome us and explain the campground rules.

We got this spot with a lake-front view and settled down to make outrselves comfortable, and to welcome in the new year.  We could not believe the 81 degree temperature, and soon we were unpacking our shorts and light clothing.
