A Bluegrass Family Afternoon Concert

The Baker Family came into our park on Wednesday.
A family group from Missouri, they have been playing for a number of years and have won many awards.
The mother is on the left - and three siblings on the right in the photo above.  Notice the brother on the right is now playing the banjo.
Here the sister put down her mandolin and is playing the fiddle with her brother.  The family was talented and versatile.
Here the brother on the left switched with his mother and is playing the bass fiddle.
Playing the "Orange Blossom Special" behind your head is not easy.

And neither is playing the bass while standing on it...
The band was great and it was fun to watch and listen.

If you would like to sample their music you can click on

For the Couple That Has Everything

Why share a golf cart when you go to the laundry room?   Why share one when you ride around the RV park or go to play Bingo?

Simple answer.
If you have the money just buy an electric cart for both of you.

You Know What They Say About Birds of a Feather..

On a recent bicycle ride in this area of southern Texas we noticed these white objects down in this canal.  Therefore, we hopped off our bikes to walk up and take a closer look.

We discovered this flock of White Pelicans enjoying a sunny afternoon together.  We found what they say about birds of a feather is true down here!

A Wine Tasting Party - Cheers!

On Sunday afternoon Bentsen Palm Village RV Park hosted a wine tasting party at the club house for any who wanted to attend.  Each person, or couple, was asked to to bring a bottle of wine and a pairing (side snack).  A bottle of wine from your home region was  preferred, but not required.

The bottles and pairings were set up by the hostess and each bottle was labeled by region and type with its pairing.  The photo above shows about half of the tables.

Here is our bottle after the hostess set it up.  Note the card at the bottom of the ice bucket.

Karen brought a bottle of Lelanau Winter White that was given to her as a Christmas gift by our neighbors, the Hummels'.

Our friends, Nancy and Phil Smoker, from Vicksburg came over and joined us at the party.
Above, Karen and Nancy are enjoying some of the Winter White wine that was very popular at the gathering.

Above Phil, Bill, Karen and Nancy pose for a picture at this fun event.  We had a good time and we all got to sample some wines that we would otherwise never taste.  The pairings were delicious as well!  After the wine party we got to go home and watch Green Bay beat the Seahawks - so it was a fine Sunday indeed.

Wow! Is That a Soccer Ball?

On a recent exploratory bicycle trip outside of our RV park, Bill came across this soccer ball next to the road.
Compared to his mountain bicycle you get a grasp of its size.   It invited further investigation so he rode down the trail to check things out.

Sure enough down the driveway was this small soccer complex.  It was busy on Saturday morning and the children were having fun.  The two fields had artificial turf as growing grass and keeping it green in this dry area is difficult to do.

Excuse Me but is That A "Raptor in the Rafter"?

In camping circle number four, almost across the road from us, is this community pavilion. People use it for gatherings of various sorts.
It doesn't rain much here in Mission, but when it does this shelter still allows picnics to be held.

A week or so ago a woman called to Bill to come over and look up at the roof inside.

High above was this owl.
It was not very large and we believe it was a Screech Owl trying to rest during the daylight hours.
We are thankful that he is around to help eliminate unwanted critters.

Handicapped Bikers in the Park

This year, for the first time that we can remember,  we are seeing motorcycle-type vehicles down here that are designed so guys in wheelchairs can still hit the road on powerful two-wheeled vehicles.  (Make that three-wheels.)

Here is a picture of one from the front....

..and from the back.
If the vehicles have a technical name we do not know it.
The men just enter with their wheelchairs,  fasten things down and drive off.

They can't walk but now they can still get out and feel the wind in their hair and the roar under their feet!
